A Green Shawl, Wrist Warmers, and 2017’s First WIP

Although 2017 is only a few days old, I am pleased to already have a FO and a new WIP. The wrist warmers which I made as a Christmas present were also finished in time and the receiver loved them (yay!). The pattern for them is at the bottom of the post.

The Eilian/Greengage Shawl

The shawlette I made with Stylecraft Special (DK) in the Greengage colourway (and a 4mm hook) is my first finished object for the year! The pattern is Eilian by the extremely talented Jasmin Räsänen. I think it will work wonderful during the fall when the weather is just starting to get nippy.

The Eilian/Peacock Shawl

My new WIP – and first WIP for the year – is also the Eilian shawl, but this time worked in Red Heart Lacie (Colour 00005) and with a 3mm hook. I just love this pattern, as you can tell! The lace pattern also shows a lot clearer in this version. I’ve decided to call it the Peacock Shawl and think it’s going to be gorgeous once it’s finished. I have about 800m of Lacie yarn, so it should give me a sizable shawl.

The Wrist Warmer Pattern

The wrist warmer pattern is based on this pattern and is worked in a classic granny square pattern using DK wool and a 5mm hook. I used 8 rows to get the desired size.

Sew two sides together, leaving a gap for your thumb to fit through. Next, to make the wrist warmer fit better over your hand, tuck and sew one or two blocks on the outside of the hand. The flowers will hide the seam, so don’t worry.

Work one or two rows of double crochet around the bottom to round it off.

Flower pattern:

The flower is worked as a simple 1 row pattern, starting with a magic circle. (Make 2)

Make a magic circle and work as follows: 1 ch, 1 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, 3 tr, 2 dc, 3 tr, and end with a slip stitch. Fasten to the wrist warmer over the seam to hide it.
