Mermaid Tail Finished! (And Pattern)

I did find all the yarn I needed at the closest shop to me (yay!) and was able to finish the second mermaid tail this weekend – behold:

I also bought (enough) wool for the third tail. At least now I am 100% sure that I have enough wool to finish the whole tail and not just three quarters. Also, I won’t act like it wasn’t a lot of fun to walk through the wool shop with my arms stuffed with wool. (Mine! All mine! Mwahahaha!) And I wasn’t sidetracked to buy other wool, which is a good thing. I love watching Sticks + Twine on YouTube and on it Eric talked about only buying for specific projects (Project Specific Purchasing, or PSP) and though I could very much see a shawl in the one variegated brown yarn they had in stock, I reminded myself of the other three shawls I need to finish first and for which I already have the yarn.

But I digress…

Here’s some more pics of the tail, where you can better see the pattern as well as where I used Elle Babykins 3-ply along with the Elle Charity DK right at the top of the tail to stiffen it a bit. This is not necessary, though, but I just like it because it helps to keep the form better. The pattern is highly customisable – you can make it smaller for toddlers and babies, or enlarge it for adults without much effort at all. The size in the pattern is for young children, about 5 – 7 years, but you’ll be able to tell quickly how many stitches you need to add or subtract to make another size.

The ingredients I used for the second tail are:

  • 2 x balls Elle Charity DK in Apple Green, Lemon, Ecru, Cloud Blue, and Mauve
  • 1 x ball Elle Babykins in Luva Bubble
  • 5 mm/size H crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle (or any needle, really – my tapestry one was just handy and large enough)
  • Scissors
  • Lots of tea and coffee

The PDF for of the pattern will be on Ravelry soon, but until then, you can download it from this link:

I’ll also add more WIP pics there and on Instagram as I make the next one.

I only ask that, if you do use the pattern, you send me some pics so that I can see how yours looks! Because I can be nosy like that. (Oh, and please don’t go and sell the pattern when you got it for free. But by all means sell the tails you make if you like :D)Ps. The US pattern will be available soon.
